Redrafting the 2015 NBA Draft: Role players everywhere

#2 Pick: Devin Booker (Originally: D’Angelo Russell)
At the time this did not cross anyone’s mind. Devin Booker was looked at as a solid prospect but nothing like what he has become. Kentucky was a juggernaut during the season, not losing a game till they fell in the NCAA tournament. Booker was one of six players to average more than 8.7 points per game.
However, he did not start a single game for the loaded Wildcats so it is easy to see how he slid to thirteen. Things changed quickly in the NBA as he has started in every game he has appeared in other than 25 games in his rookie season. Career shooting splits of .447/.355/.868 show that he is efficient and everyone who has seen the highlights know he is a lethal scorer.
Booker is also an underrated passer, increasing his assist average to 6.8 and 6.6 in the last two seasons. The Suns have not gotten much right in recent years but they absolutely nailed Booker. If they can ever find a way to build around him he will reward their choice.
Russell definitely has merit as a number two pick as he is also one of the All-Stars out of this draft. But it never looked like it was going to work in Los Angeles and as someone who likes Russell, I was not going down that road again.
