Redrafting the 2015 NBA Draft: Role players everywhere

#24 Pick: T.J. McConnell (Originally: Tyus Jones)
Clearly Minnesota agreed with my valuation of Tyus Jones at least originally, giving up the 31st pick, the 36th pick and a 2019 second-round pick to take the Duke guard. They got to keep Towns as originally selected but this pick will have to change. Pairing him with a young guard from the start was a smart play, giving him and Wiggins someone who could set them up for success.
I know Tom Thibodeau does not play rookies but T.J. McConnell seems like his kind of rookie. Simply put he is a pest in every way that can be a compliment. He gets under his opponents’ skin, dives for every loose ball and played smart defense even as a rookie. This earned him his spot in the league as an undrafted free agent for the Process Sixers and it has kept him in the league ever since.
His numbers do not jump out at you with career averages of 6.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.2 steals in only 21.5 minutes per game. He is the quintessential Thibs role player and I think he would have had significantly more success than Tyus Jones saw with the coach based solely on the personality match.
