Redrafting the 2015 NBA Draft: Role players everywhere

#1 Pick: Karl-Anthony Towns (Originally: Karl-Anthony Towns)
There is no disputing this pick. While Towns has not had much success on the floor he is still the best player in this draft. Towns is already two-time All-Star and would have been one this year ever with a terrible record if he had not missed substantial time due to injury.
He is an elite scoring big man, scoring between 21.3 and 26.5 points per game over the last four seasons and shoots a blistering 39.6 percent from three. He improved as a distance shooter this season to 41.2 percent on almost eight attempts per game.
While he has not been the defensive stalwart some hoped he would be he still posts career averages of 11.8 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 1.5 blocks. Karl-Anthony Towns has all the tools to be a perennial All-NBA center. Commitment from him on the defensive end and from the front office to surrounding him with a more talented roster will be essential to his success.
This pick was never in doubt and it has made the Timberwolves a more relevant franchise, leading to them trading for stars like Jimmy Butler and fellow 2015 draftee D’Angelo Russell. The script is still out on Towns succeeding in Minnesota, but this was always the right choice.
