Redrafting the 2015 NBA Draft: Role players everywhere

#18 Pick: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (Previously: Sam Dekker)

Sam Dekker made a lot of sense at the time, coming off of a strong run for a Wisconsin team that made a run all the way to the NCAA Championship game. He just never panned out as a professional player and has since transitioned to playing overseas.

Going in a similar mold, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is worth a shot for the Rockets at 18. He has been a solid reserve for back-to-back season for playoff teams after learning the ropes of the NBA in Brooklyn during their long rebuild. He is not the shooter that Dekker looked to be in the NBA but he is a solid rebounder for his position and is efficient from inside the arc.

He would be learning from plenty of players in practice and a stellar coaching staff to help develop his shot and defensive mentality as he is currently in Toronto.

Sam Dekker was eventually part of the trade that landed the Rockets Chris Paul. Considering he was one of the lower tier prospects included alongside a package of Patrick Beverley, Montrezl Harrell, Darrun Hilliard, DeAndre Liggins, Lou Williams, Kyle Wiltjer and a 2018 first-round pick removing Dekker likely only matter in terms of salary matching and I trust in Daryl Morey to be able to figure of the difference.
