2011-2012 Season

The lockout shortens this season, and the Timberwolves start playing basketball just a few days after Christmas.

Unfortunately, Jonny Flynn has received the present he dreaded most. It was the name that had haunted him all last season: Ricky Rubio.

Rubio was the polar opposite of Flynn. A “pure point guard”, Rubio worked best moving the ball quickly. And he was humble and more than ready to learn.

Flynn hadn’t ingratiated himself to any of his teammates. Meanwhile, Rubio had the respect of the bench players considering the connection he had with their leader, JJ Barea, and had the respect of the starting lineup because of his obvious talent and humility.

Still, Flynn gets the nod.

With Rubio putting some pressure on Flynn, he works a little more to fit under Kurt Rambis’ system. But the triangle still isn’t working, and the Timberwolves only manage 30 wins. Just four more than they did in real life.
