Washington Wizards: 3 players not likely to return in 2020-21

2. Thomas Bryant

Mahinmi is the big man most likely to leave Washington this summer, but Thomas Bryant’s departure is not out of the question either. He would have to leave via trade, though, as he’s under contract through the 2021-22 season.

Bryant stepped into a void at the position when he was claimed off waivers two summers ago and has performed admirably since. This season, he’s averaging 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, both of which are career highs for the 22-year-old.

At times, he has flashed the potential to be a high-level starter at his position. Wizards fans will remember December 22, 2018, fondly, when Bryant scored 31 points while shooting 14-of-14 from the floor.

Those moments of brilliance have been inconsistent, though. Bryant scored at least 20 points in a game six times this season, but only one of those times have come since the end of November. He did miss some time with a foot injury, but there was clearly regression from the beginning to the end of the season.

Bryant has become a rather polarizing player in NBA circles. He’s still very young, so his best days could be ahead of him. Some believe he may be reaching his zenith right now.
