Boston Celtics: 3 former players who could have helped this season
The Boston Celtics were not a perfect team this season, which is why some notable former players could have had big roles on the team this past year.
At the time the 2019-20 season came to a screeching halt, the Boston Celtics were third in the Eastern Conference with a record of 43-21.
Despite passing the eye test, the team still had weaknesses that were glaring when a full roster breakdown was done.
Daniel Theis was a serviceable center and played well against stronger and taller opponents. Still, a lack of a true defensive center was a cause for concern for some analysts.
Another concern as the season wound down was the absence of a bench scoring threat. Per NBA.com, the Celtics ranked 29th in bench scoring, ranking only behind the injury-riddled Portland Trail Blazers. That certainly would not get it done in the playoffs, where bench depth is a bigger factor in team success.
This season was especially one for nostalgia, as many Celtics fans looked back to past players on the team and were eager for their services. While many are currently rostered on other teams, one, in particular, remained available, and many readers have an idea of who that mystery player is, but we’ll get to that later.
Regardless of the names suggested for team help, the point remained the same: The Celtics needed something, anything, to give them a spark. Whether that be off the bench or frontcourt help, the fanbase wanted to see some moves being made.
Those moves, of course, did not happen. Still, there are a few players who suited up for the Cs in the past that could have been utilized on the roster throughout the season.
