Keep the market honest

There are a number of young guys who could be due for a big payday this summer. While the Detroit Pistons are far from competing there is no reason to not extend an offer to these players. They either do not answer the call, or if they are restricted the offer could get matched or they are on the team and they become an asset either on or off the court.

There are six young guys who immediately make a lot of sense with a Detroit Pistons rebuild in mind. They should at least call on these players, but that will come with a big price tag. The most common name mentioned among them is Brandon Ingram for obvious reasons.

More from Hoops Habit

In his first season in New Orleans he became an All-Star and increased his points per game (by 6.0), rebounds per game (by 1.2) and assists per game (by 1.3) while increasing his efficiency from long range and the free throw line. The Pelicans will likely be looking to lock him up and playing next to Zion Williamson going forward is likely more appealing than anything the Detroit Pistons can offer but there is no reason to not call.

Similarly, Bogdan Bogdanovic looks to be one of the more sought after restricted free agents this summer. He found his way into the starting lineup mid-season over Buddy Hield, who signed a massive extension before the season so if any offers come in it would seem the Kings would be more apt to move on from Hield than the expiring Serbian shooting guard.

The final four players in this category fall into a similar role. They are all in the 24-28 age range and shoot between 35.6 percent and 42.3 percent from 3-point range. Dario Saric and Davis Bertans play forward while Joe Harris and Malik Beasley play shooting guard but each of them bring spacing to any offense that adds them.

Saric may be the most attainable for any of them as he has played on three teams already and has gotten worse over the last two seasons. But all of these players fit on any sort of contending roster. Other than a cursory call, do not expect the Pistons to get much further.
