The Detroit Pistons enter this off-season beginning a rebuild and with substantial cap space for the first time in ages. Where should they start?

Previously we discussed the players most likely to be leaving the Detroit Pistons this summer. Someone will have to fill those open roster spots this summer. The team will have at least seven open roster spots but could easily open up a few more. For the purposes of this exercise, we will assume most if not all of the free agents for this team will leave this summer.

So where does the team go from here? The most logical path forward is to commit to the rebuild and sign a combination of young players they want to take a chance on to see if being in a new situation can change their future and veterans to support them. The Detroit Pistons only have one pick in this year’s draft so the bulk of the roster slots will be filled with free agency and trades.

Rather than trying to project what contracts might become available as teams make plays in free agency we are only looking at the players in the free agency pool to see who the Detroit Pistons should make calls on.

Not all of the players have a realistic chance of landing in the Motor City but that does not mean the front office should not be calling. Maximizing every roster slot from during the rebuild will accelerate the process so let’s look at some of the chances they can consider taking.
