The New York Knicks have a terrible track record in free agency over the years. Here are the team’s worst-ever offseason signings.
Has any nut job out there actually kept a log of all the times the New York Knicks have abducted the sanity of their fan base with maddening roster transactions throughout the years?
Just last season, the Knicks stunned the NBA landscape after they unloaded star big man Kristaps Porzingis in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks. At the time, it seemed like a reasonable deal in that the organization managed to get the swollen contracts of Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr. off the books. Doing so also opened the door for New York to ink two potential superstars to max contracts that offseason.

Every fan in the Big Apple had their sights set on then-Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant and then-Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving. However, the summer went by and KD and Kyrie didn’t even consider signing with the Knicks. What made the failed free agency saga a double-edged sword was the fact that both players signed with the Brooklyn Nets, who are the Knicks’ supposed crosstown little brother based on brand.
Obligated to spend a set sum of those funds, New York went on to sign a cluster of expendable veterans to one-year contracts.
That got us thinking: the Knicks’ inability to recruit superstars to help them ascend from the NBA’s laughingstock is probably just as bad as the team’s willingness to dole out the big bucks to players that aren’t quite deserving of such a luxury.
There is a flock of players to choose from, but who made our list as New York’s five worst free agent signing in franchise history?
