Time is running out

This was the offseason the team has been planning for since the new front office took over. For the first time in a long time, the team will have meaningful cap space to work with, mostly because of the plethora of expiring contracts on the team.

Reggie Jackson and Jon Leuer were two of the four guaranteed expiring contracts on the team with Langston Galloway, Thon Maker, Christian Wood and a number of young players still remaining. Christian Wood is obviously the guy on the roster the Pistons will be selling hardest on remaining with the team. For Thon and Galloway, things are a little different.

Thon Maker has had an up-and-down run since coming over to the Pistons last season. He endeared himself to the fan base early on for his physical play and a bloody smile after getting his mouth busted.

Unfortunately, it was mostly downhill from there as he could not consistently contribute on offense. The defensive flashes kept him in the lineup over Christian Wood early in the season but that would not last. Maker saw an uptick in play following the Drummond trade but it is likely best for both the team and Maker to go their separate ways.

Galloway, on the other hand, will be the kind of guy the team misses but he should look to go elsewhere. The lack of interest for him at the deadline was surprising as he shot the lights out this season.

As contender after contender was reportedly looking for shooting to bolster their bench, Galloway made far too much sense as he was shooting 39.9 percent from three-point range this season. Galloway will be able to sign with a contending team this offseason and he honestly deserves to play for a winner. He has been a great teammate and personality while in Detroit and does not really get the credit he deserves.
