For fans to start their history lesson, especially the new incoming fans, they need to understand how the Kings franchise formed. Before moving to Sacramento, the Kings started as the Rochester Royals from the state of New York. They then moved to Ohio and were the Cincinnati Royals in the year 1957.

In 1972, the Royals rebranded as the Kings and moved to Kansas City, Missouri which is only three hours from Omaha, Nebraska, therefore, becoming the Kansas City-Omaha Kings. Later in 1985, they moved to Sacramento and have remained ever since.
