2014 NBA Redraft: A tale of two big men and two missed picks

#25 Pick: Noah Vonleh (Originally: Clint Capela)

Tough for the Houston Rockets, losing out on Clint Capela. A center behind to learn behind Dwight Howard as his back (and relationship with James Harden) was breaking down is a position of need for a team picking this late in the draft.

While he does not play the position the same way as Capela, taking a chance on Noah Vonleh this late in the game is good value. His best season came with the Knicks last year, but it was also the only time he was given more than 20 minutes per game and he rewarded that trust with 8.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Translating his career number to per 36-minute averages makes a case for him getting an increased opportunity. His stats balloon to 10.5 points, 11.1 rebounds along with a block and a steal in that model.

While those minutes aren’t guaranteed, it’s not hard to imagine a stark improvement in production playing alongside Harden in D’Antoni’s system. Of all the options left, Vonleh replaces Capela the best and that is a huge reason to take the chance on Noah Vonleh.
