2014 NBA Redraft: A tale of two big men and two missed picks

#10 Pick: Gary Harris (Originally: Elfrid Payton)
Orlando traded up with Philadelphia here, sending out No. 12 pick and a future first and second-round pick to get their guard of the future in Elfrid Payton. While I wish they had just stayed where they were, working with what they did we will still land on a guard, just not a point guard.
Gary Harris does not get as much recognition as he should because he has taken a slight step over the last two years, coinciding with the emergence of the Denver Nuggets. Also, the Nuggets were not on national TV during his better seasons as much. He also has a history of nagging injuries that don’t help his case.
His best two seasons were his third and fourth seasons and he shot a combined 49.2 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from long range. He is a career double-figure scorer and has been all but one season in his career.
Harris’s game is efficient but it is not flashy. This is the Magic taking two chances on two very different guards, building up a cache of perimeter players as the league is trending that way instead of focusing on multiple bigs. When a team has this kind of record, it is better to have more bites of the apple, even if they play similar roles.
