Buddy is an on-court professional

Even though I have defended Buddy Hield, I have not oblivious from his behavior this season. The comments towards his team and critics show signs of immaturity and being egocentric from the Kings’ sharpshooter, leading to fans opting for the team to trade him sooner than later.

But even though Hield’s actions off the court have been less than ideal, his actions on the court have been solid. Even though Hield got demoted from the starting two-guard to a bench player, he used it as motivation which has made him become an asset again for the team. Not only has Hield’s play gotten better, but his attitude remains the same as he continues to cheer for his teammates despite not being content with his role on the team.

I get it, Kings fans. It is tough to support someone unhappy on your team to the extent that he may want to request a trade. But whether Hield is happy or not, the Kings have full control of where he plays in the next four years. Unless Hield acts up and plays down from his level, then maybe a trade is the next best step. But so far, Hield has continued to play hard and make an effort to be the best player he can be.

At the end of the day, Hield is an asset for the Kings and has played a valuable part in the team’s rebuild. Unless a team is willing to offer the Kings a generous haul for the services of Hield, he should remain to represent the team.

This season was not a good phase in the relationship between Hield and the Kings, but I believe the best is yet to come.
