#5: Marcus Morris (2012-15)

The Phoenix Suns had the chance to fill their shooting forward void when they traded for Marcus Morris, but that chance sailed away after a while. Morris would leave Phoenix after his average tenure to become a key role apart of the Boston Celtics, and eventually would capitalize on more minutes in his quick, yet great stint apart of the New York Knicks.

While the Suns didn’t really know that Marcus was going to be the better brother, his shooting prowess is exactly what current rookie Cam Johnson brings. He’s certainly not essential for their future, considering they have their future forwards sorted out. Oubre and Johnson are more than likely here to stay. So why even consider bringing Morris back?

One word: Depth.

Morris has shown that he can provide reliable scoring on limited minutes during his current run apart of the LA Clippers. A sixth-man role for Morris would be quite interesting if the Suns were to ever consider making a move for the swingman.

Maybe even the Suns could experiment with adjusting Oubre into a Power Forward, after all, he’s got the height and defense to run with the big dogs. That could push Morris even further into the starting lineup, running Johnson off the bench as a dynamic shooting presence. There are some things that can be tried with Morris that are worth that risk.

As it’s stated, it’s not completely essential. You can be fairly sure that the Suns could go without Morris. But imagine the shooting chemistry between Booker and Morris, it’s amazing just pondering about it. A player with decent defense and useful shooting ability is already what the Suns have.

It’s not essential, but it’d be damn awesome for the Suns to give it a go.
