The Toronto Raptors are headed towards a pivotal offseason. Targeting the right players in free agency will be a key for 2020-21 success.

As the 2019-20 NBA season remains in flux, it’s a good time to look towards the upcoming offseason and the succeeding 2020-21 season. For the Toronto Raptors, that could mean looking at a lot of changes to the roster.

Last summer resulted in the losses of Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, but the team largely kept the same roster from the franchise’s first championship. They also remained very quiet in free agency, with the most splashy signings being Stanley Johnson and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

This upcoming summer could be very different. The Raptors may be in line to lose several key free agents, including Marc Gasol and Fred VanVleet (though the franchise will likely try to re-sign the latter). Toronto could have as much as $25 million in cap space this summer should all of their free agents depart, although next year’s cap situation in the league remains unclear.

The only surefire pieces the Raptors will have next season are Pascal Siakam, Kyle Lowry and Norman Powell. Serge Ibaka is an unrestricted free agent, though there appears to be interest in bringing him back. OG Anunoby and Terence Davis will also be back, forming the makings of a championship core.

Still, the Raptors are projected to have some holes. They could use more bench scoring, more shooters and a starting big man. Assuming moves are made in a vacuum – spoiler, they aren’t – here are four free agents the Raptors should target in 2020 free agency. (Contract details courtesy of Spotrac.)
