Minnesota Timberwolves: Kevin Garnett’s three best trash talk stories
By Ethan Becker
1. Three little words
“(Expletive) you, Noah”
This is probably the funniest, and cleanest, line of smack talk that Garnett has ever muttered.
Ok, a little back story on this one. Joakim Noah grew up, much like a lot of taller kids in the early 2000’s, idolizing Garnett. He modeled his game after KG’s, and he had a very similar way of carrying himself on the court (and that includes smack talk. Here’s some of my favorites from him).
So, naturally, Noah looked forward to his first encounter with Garnett when he arrived in the league. However, and this has actually been confirmed by Paul Pierce, it didn’t go too well:
"One time, he asked [Joakim] Noah if he could rub through his hair, like a female or something. … And I know that kind of made [Noah] hot. And this was when Noah was a rookie, too."
But this pales in comparison to Garnett’s crowning line in my mind:
"He [Noah] was like, “Man, KG, I had your poster on my wall, I looked up to you, man.” And then [Garnett] just said..”(expletive) you, Noah.”"
It’s simple, it’s direct, and (again according to Pierce) it crushed Noah. Garnett didn’t always need to resort to some extreme creativity to throw Noah off his game, all it took, was three little words.
