Honorable Mention: The Honey Nut Cheerios Incident
Yeah, no list like this is going to be complete without mentioning this. And to be perfectly honest, if this was true, it’d probably rank near the top of my list.
Unfortunately, the infamous Honey Nut Cheerios incident is almost certainly not true.
Back in 2013, the Boston Celtics were facing the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden, when all of a sudden Garnett and Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony got into a tangle at center court.
Right, ok, how do I explain this on a family friendly website? Uh…Garnett allegedly (going to put some emphasis on that allegedly) told Melo that his wife had been eating too many Honey Nut Cheerios. So many in fact, the Garnett himself could taste them.
Good enough?
So, again, this exchange almost certainly didn’t happen. Paul Pierce (Garnett’s teammate at the time), La La Anthony (Carmelo’s wife), and Garnett himself have all denied that the Big Ticket said that. Melo simply said that Garnett told him, “Something you just don’t say to another man, to a friend.”
Melo and Garnett have mended fences now, and considering Melo and La La are still together, it’s unlikely that KG made the comment he allegedly made. Even so, it was clear he crossed a line.
A running pattern, you’ll soon find out.
