The NBA Draft is often described as a crapshoot. Here are eight times the Cleveland Cavaliers chose wrong and missed out on drafting a superstar.
Hindsight is always 20/20. You can look back through any NBA team’s history and find a number of bad draft decisions. Unfortunately for the Cleveland Cavaliers, there have been more than a few mistakes throughout the years.
The NBA Draft Lottery has been historically kind to the Cavaliers. Cleveland has been granted the No. 1 overall pick a total of six times in their 50 years as a franchise. This is the most of any other team in league history.
Even with this massive advantage in the draft, the Cavaliers have spent most of their time as a bottom feeder team in the Eastern Conference. This is because for every LeBron James and Kyrie Irving they drafted there was an Anthony Bennett and Andrew Wiggins that followed.

Cleveland has never been a top spot for free agents and they likely never will be. This increases the importance of acquiring a superstar through the draft as it is their best chance of building a championship-contending team.
Eventually, the Cavaliers will have another chance to draft a star in the 2020 NBA Draft. Whoever they select will join an underrated group of young prospects such as Collin Sexton, Kevin Porter Jr. and Darius Garland. It is important that the Cavaliers select a player that will not only mesh well with the current roster but develop into a quality producer over the years.
It might be a while before we discover the outcome of the 2020 NBA Draft. For now, let’s look back at eight times the Cavaliers missed out on drafting a future superstar.
