3. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson doesn’t appear to be long for Toronto. Despite just joining the team last summer, he may very well find himself signing somewhere else next year.

After spending the first four years of his career with the Brooklyn Nets, the former first-round pick signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Raptors a year ago. It was a “prove-it” deal for Hollis-Jefferson, who belongs in an NBA rotation, but hasn’t quite found his place in the league yet.

This season hasn’t done much to change that perception. Hollis-Jefferson is averaging 7.2 points and 4.9 rebounds off the bench, playing less than 20 minutes per game. His career-long struggles from 3-point range have continued, with Hollis-Jefferson hitting an abysmal 11.8 percent of his three-point shots.

Hollis-Jefferson stepped up somewhat when Serge Ibaka was sidelined, but he still didn’t prove himself to be an NBA starter. Should the playoffs happen in a normal fashion, he may be stuck competing with rookie Terence Davis for the last scraps of postseason minutes.

Hollis-Jefferson is dependable on the defensive end, but he’s not elite. That calling card would be much more valuable if he developed a three-point shot and turned into a 3-and-D guy. That doesn’t appear to be in his future, though.

Perhaps the Raptors will bring Hollis-Jefferson back on another cheap contract. Right now, however, it seems the team will cut bait with him after the year.
