Feb. 2 @ Detroit Pistons

During the latter half of January and for the first few games in February, Monte Morris subbed into the starting lineup for an injured Jamal Murray, whose shoes he filled admirably. On Feb. 2 against the Detroit Pistons, he had his best game as a starter for the Nuggets and his best outing of the season.

While Nikola Jokic stole the show for Denver with a 39-point triple-double, Morris also had an impressive season-high 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field to go along with seven assists and a career-high-tying seven rebounds.

Morris had his jumper working off the dribble all night long, he finished at the rim effectively, and he kept Detroit’s defense honest on the perimeter with his two made threes. Morris hit the ground running from the opening tip, as he picked up seven points and notched five dimes in the opening frame.

He steadily added to his stats as the game progressed, and although he didn’t score in the overtime period, he pulled down two offensive boards to give the Nuggets a second chance on two separate possessions. Considering that Morris stands at six-foot-two, this feat is all the more impressive.

Although the Nuggets ultimately came up short, falling to the Pistons 128-13 in overtime, Morris proved that he can provide Denver with starter-level production when his number is called upon.
