  • Picked before: Serge Ibaka (24), Nicolas Batum (25), George Hill (26)

Courtney Lee only played one year with the Magic, but it was a memorable one. As a rookie, he was a key part of Orlando’s run to the NBA Finals in 2009. For that reason alone, Lee belongs this high on the list. After the season, Lee was traded to the Brooklyn Nets — then of New Jersey —  along with Rafer Alston for Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson.

The trade worked out for both sides. Lee had statistically the best season of his career with New Jersey before being traded again to the Houston Rockets. This time it was a four-team blockbuster that sent New Jersey native Troy Murphy home.

Anderson won the Most Improved Player Award in 2011-12 and became one of the league’s most prolific 3-point shooters. Carter was arguably the team’s second-best player before getting traded again less than two years later. This was right around the end of the Dwight-SVG era.

Lee’s had an excellent career. He’s a bit of a journeyman – he’s played on eight teams in 12 seasons – but there was a time when Lee was considered one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA.

For his career, Lee shoots it better than 45 percent overall, 38 percent from 3-point range, and 85 percent from the free-throw line. He’s probably most well-known for his two seasons with the Grit and Grind Memphis Grizzlies.

Lee didn’t have a long career in Orlando or anywhere else, but he made his mark. That’s why he’s so high on this list.
