Toronto Raptors: Ranking the last 10 first-round picks
6. Ed Davis
Ed Davis has made a solid career out of being solid, but unspectacular player. His slotting into the middle of these rankings makes even more sense when looking at the power forward’s career through that lens.
Davis was selected towards the end of the lottery – 13th overall – in the 2010 NBA Draft. He started his rookie season with the Erie BayHawks during their brief affiliation with the Raptors. He didn’t make his debut until Dec. 1, 2010, but flashed plenty of potential there, scoring 11 points and grabbing six rebounds.
Despite not starting the year with the team, Davis suited up in 65 games and even made 17 starts during his rookie campaign, averaging 7.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. His role was expected to increase the following season, but actually plateaued. Davis’ minutes, starts, points and rebounds all declined slightly in Year 2 of his career.
Davis improved at the start of his third season, averaging 9.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in the first 45 games, making 24 starts in the process. But January brought the first of many career transactions for Davis, as he was sent to Memphis in the three-way deal that brought Rudy Gay to the Raptors.
In two and a half seasons in Toronto, Davis averaged 7.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He has since played for the Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, Trail Blazers, Brooklyn Nets and now Utah Jazz.
