New Orleans Pelicans: Brandon Ingram’s 5 best games of the season
1. A career night against Utah (01/16/20)
The Pelicans had already suffered a slim two-point defeat on their home court at the hands of the Utah Jazz, so there was likely a pursuit for revenge when the two teams met 10 days later at the Smoothie King Center.
More than a 138-132 overtime victory, New Orleans was part of an incredible display of 1-v-1 excellence between two of the game’s brightest young stars.
By shooting 15-of-25 from the field, Ingram finished this game with a career-high 49 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Right there with him was Donovan Mitchell with a career-high-tying 46 of his own.
Ingram poured in 14 in the fourth quarter, including a go-ahead shot in the game’s final seconds before scoring five points with three assists in the extra session. He also amassed 20 free-throw attempts, by far a career-best, making 16.
Utah ranks among the league’s top defenses, but Ingram appeared unfazed when draining a majority of the shots he took.
Exactly two weeks after this game, Ingram was named an All-Star for the first time in his career. Fitting, given the new heights his game has consistently reached with nights like this one.
