Boston Celtics: Ranking the last 10 first-round draft picks by the Celtics
4. Terry Rozier
Terry Rozier is one of the few recent draftees to have a great start to their career for the Boston Celtics. He was drafted 16th overall in the first-round of the 2015 NBA Draft and spent four seasons on the team. Rozier was ultimately part of a sign-and-trade that sent him to the Charlotte Hornets, and brought Kemba Walker to Boston.
In 2017, Rozier helped lead the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks, in which the Celtics lost in seven games. Although I believe Rozier is more suited to be a shooting guard, it was this season that he solidified himself as a true NBA point guard.
The following year, Rozier thought he had proved himself worthy of being a starter. But instead, the Celtics traded for Kyrie Irving, thus telling him he is not the starter and adding fuel to the fire under Rozier. He made it known publicly that he was unhappy with his playing time and some of the decisions made by Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge.
Rozier became a free agent this past offseason and joined the Hornets to be their new starting point guard. He played in 63 games and averaged 18 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game this season in his first season with the Hornets.
In four seasons with the Boston Celtics, Rozier played in 272 games and averaged 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Along the way he became a fan favorite known as ”Scary Terry” and helped lead the Celtics to the playoffs each season he was with the team.
