8. R.J. Hunter
After a successful college career at Georgia State, R.J. Hunter was selected 28th overall in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft. He left Georgia State holding the school’s record for most career points with 1,819 points.
Hunter only played in 36 games for the Celtics during his rookie season. Primarily in a role off the bench, he only averaged 2.7 points per game and spent the majority of his time playing for the team’s G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.
The following season, Hunter was cut by the Celtics. He has since bounced around the G-League and is currently signed with the College Park Skyhawks, the G-League team for the Atlanta Hawks.
It’s worth mentioning that Hunter did play one season in Turkey for the Turk Telekom B.M. last year where he averaged 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists per game.
The overall point in drafting Hunter was to add depth as an additional shooter to a team that consisted of Isaiah Thomas, Evan Turner, and Avery Bradley at the time. The Celtics thought that Hunter fit the specific need nicely.
