Al Horford

Veteran forward Al Horford is having about as rough a first season with his new team, the Philadelphia 76ers as humanly possible. It’s been a tough season filled with off-court dramatics, and incredibly inconsistent rotations from head coach Brett Brown.

Still, he’s a perennial All-Star and potential Hall of Famer. Horford belongs on a title team that’s going to use him correctly. Could that be the Brooklyn Nets?

I’m not here to tell you what the ideal fit is for Horford, but I’ll tell you one thing: it’s not next to Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid on this 76ers team.

In the system of old, under previous head coach Kenny Atkinson, there’d likely be suspicions about his fit. But now, as the Nets begin to start anew with a new head coach, there’s a real opportunity.

Horford posted 12 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists this season. That’s over a 60-game stretch in what’s his 13th season at the age of 33. Not bad at all.

The biggest question mark for Brooklyn is where he left things with Irving, whose season with the Boston Celtics wasn’t shy of distractions off the floor and in the locker room. But right now, it’s hard to see the 76ers turning down a package centered around LeVert and Allen.

Being able to buy in low on Horford right now may make the deal too enticing for Sean Marks and the front office. Due diligence on a guy of his level and experience will never not make sense.
