Phoenix Suns: Ranking the last 10 first-round picks
By Jono Perilli
8: Archie Goodwin (2013)
For a player who was selected with the twenty-ninth pick, Archie Goodwin wasn’t too bad in his three seasons in Phoenix.
In his freshman season at Kentucky, Goodwin was able to provide valuable scoring and athleticism as part of a sensational squad that featured No. 1 ranked NCAA player Nerlens Noel. Goodwin was expected to be a mid-first rounder or a possible lottery pick, but he managed to drop down to the twenty-ninth pick.
The Suns were expected to have a steal with Goodwin, especially since he was able to show some flashes of his potential. Unfortunately, he wasn’t NBA ready at the time of his draft.
Goodwin wasn’t able to consistently provide in his three seasons in Phoenix, only averaging 6.2 points per game while given some decent backup minutes. Goodwin did show some of his potential, but the Suns were more reliant on Eric Bledsoe.
Goodwin was able to at least step it up a notch in his final season in Phoenix, averaging 8.9 points per game, which was a bit of an improvement considering his previous years. Goodwin would get waived by the Suns in 2016 and would sign to the New Orleans Pelicans, before signing with the Brooklyn Nets that same season.
