2. AD joins elite company in Lakers’ blowout win against Memphis Grizzlies

After giving up multiple first-round picks to acquire Davis during the offseason, it didn’t take long for AD to make his mark as a member of the purple and gold. In the fourth game of the season, the Lakers held a slim two-point lead over the Memphis Grizzlies heading into the break.

The second half proved to be a different story though as the home team pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Memphis by a 39-20 margin.

When it was all said and done, the Lakers cruised to an easy 120-91 victory for their third consecutive win. Despite being questionable due to a right shoulder injury he sustained a few nights earlier, Davis scored 40 points and hauled in 20 rebounds – the fourth such performance of his career.

What is even more impressive is the fact that he did it in just 31 minutes of action, the quickest amount of time to record such gaudy numbers and becoming the sixth player in franchise history to post a 40-point, 20-rebound game. The others on the list include Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, George Mikan, and Shaquille O’Neal. It is worth noting that all of these players are in the Hall of Fame.

"“It’s an honor to be on that list with those legends but more important is we got the win,” Davis said, via NBA.com. “It was a grind in the first half and my teammates trusted me. I just tried to be a monster on the glass.”"

Davis also converted 26 of his 27 attempts from the free-throw line, becoming the fourth player in league history to record 26 makes from the charity stripe. Moreover, Davis became just the third Lakers player to record 100 points, 10 blocks, and 10 assists through his first four games.
