Re-drafting 2015-2019 second round draft picks for the Denver Nuggets
2017 NBA Draft
In the 2017 NBA Draft, the Denver Nuggets selected Vlatko Čančar with the 49th overall pick and Monte Morris with the 51st overall pick. Čančar signed his rookie deal with the Nuggets this past summer and only played 14 NBA games so far, and for that reason, I am going to say the jury is still out on him. He is only 22 years old and has virtually no NBA experience yet, meaning he could make significant improvements over the next few seasons, or he could end up returning to a team overseas.
With that said, we are only going to look at picks that provide more value than Morris did at 51. Morris is still a Nugget, and has actually averaged over 10 points per game each of the last two seasons, equating to immense value for his draft position. In fact, the only player drafted after Morris or undrafted that I would’ve considered a better or close to equal option is Chris Boucher.
Even Boucher is a stretch, given that as a 27-year-old he only averaged 6.3 points per game this past season. The argument for Boucher somewhat defies common NBA logic, but it is his potential. Some may argue that 27 is too old for a player to have much untapped potential left, but I think that it’s still possible with him as he has been a late bloomer at each level to this point.
