2016 NBA Draft

In the 2016 NBA Draft, the Denver Nuggets selected Petr Cornelie with the 53rd overall pick and Daniel Hamilton with the 56th overall pick. It is important to note, however, that Hamilton was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder on draft night for cash considerations. With that said, Petr Cornelie did play for the Nuggets summer league team in three consecutive years, but he never signed a contract with the team. Hamilton spent some time in the G League and played a total of 15 NBA games, but is now playing overseas.

Possible options that are attractive looking back are Fred VanVleet, Alex Caruso, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Danuel House. Of those options, Fred VanVleet and Danuel House would bring the most significant qualities to building a championship team.

Fred VanVleet would have been a great snag at the 53rd slot, as he has always been a very efficient backup point guard, winning the 2018-2019 NBA Championship as a member of the Toronto Raptors. During this current season, he has exploded to putting up 17.6 points along with 6.6 assists per game while shooting an efficient 3-point percentage. He seems to have a knack for hitting 3-pointers at critical moments, and he is a very crafty all-around offensive player.

Danuel House would’ve provided tremendous qualities and value for somebody grabbed at the 56th spot, mainly defensive toughness and discipline. House is strong, provides great length, and has no problem with being an offensive afterthought. He is the perfect 3-and-D type player, meaning he can hit open 3s when needed and he is a willing defender.
