Top-10 pick?

For what is the second straight year, Washington may be looking at a top-10 pick in the upcoming draft. After selecting Hachimura with the ninth overall pick last year, the Wizards have been tied to names like Isaac Okoro, Onyeka Okungwu, and even Cole Anthony in recent mock drafts.

The worst outcome of any season nearly devoted to sustaining mediocrity is still earning a reward in the draft like a lottery pick. Few teams with as much talent as is on this Wizards roster have earned two in a row in the last two drafts.

With their upcoming pick, Washington will be able to either solidify a future piece in their frontcourt next to Hachimura, a point guard to groom behind Wall, or trade back in hopes of acquiring a rotation piece to add to their playoff roster next season.

Per tankathon.com, if the season ends amidst the hiatus, the Wizards have a 4.5 percent chance at landing the first overall pick and a 20.3 percent chance at landing a pick in the top four. However the ping pong balls fall, Washington fans are likely to be happy with the result.

Even in a season that’s been deemed an absolute dud, the Washington Wizards year is filled with silver linings. Between Bradley Beal’s explosive season, Rui Hachimura’s immediate presence as a rookie talent, and their inevitable lottery high draft position; the best has yet to come.
