10 players that played for both the Lakers and the Celtics
7. Clyde Lovellette
The –very recently– late Clyde Lovellette was one of the biggest unsung stars in NBA history. His resume speaks for itself; three-time NBA Champion, four-time NBA All-Star, one-time All-NBA and a member of the holy Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Quite ironically, Lovellette played 13 seasons in the NBA. Out of those 13, he was a clear-cut star in 10 of them and quite mediocre in the other three. He ended up winning his championships in those three “individually mediocre” seasons.
Lovellette is also one of just seven players in basketball history to earn an NBA Championship, an NCAA Championship and an Olympic gold medal. A few of the other names are Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Bill Russell.
Clyde spent his first four seasons in the league with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he flourished and grew as a player. The team then traded him away, as they pursued a more rebuilding standpoint.
Towards the end of his career, Lovellette was sold to the Celtics (yes that was a thing back then). In Boston, two more championships awaited him, in a squad that might possibly be the most dominant team ever to be assembled.
