10 players that played for both the Lakers and the Celtics
10. Brian Shaw
Brian Shaw has been a huge part of the Lakers’ recent history and without a doubt one of the most important figures for the organization this century.
After being selected by the Boston Celtics with the 24th overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft, he would spend his first two-and-a-half seasons in the league in Massachusetts. Shaw would then become a journeyman, playing for five different teams before ending up in LA.
After his long journey, a 33-year old Brian Shaw would end up in California to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. He mostly served as a backup to the late Kobe Bryant, occasionally starting a game or two from time to time.
After spending four seasons with the team, he retired and joined Phil Jackson‘s coaching staff as an assistant one year later. His services were quite useful to the team, helping them lift the championship two more times, in 2009 and in 2010.
He then left to pursue what would ultimately be an unsuccessful coaching career with the Denver Nuggets, before finally making his return to the Lakers as an associate head coach. It certainly isn’t a step forward going from being Phil Jackson’s assistant to being Luke Walton‘s.
