Miami Heat: 10 stars you forgot played for the Heat
1. Penny Hardaway
Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway ended his career with a very brief stint with the Miami Heat.
The 6’7″ point guard is best known for his time with the Orlando Magic, where he was named to four All-Star teams alongside Shaquille O’Neal. A knee injury in 1997 forced Hardaway to the bench for 63 games in the 1997-98 season, robbing him of his athleticism for the remainder of his career.
After Orlando, Hardaway was traded to Phoenix, where he played for over four seasons. He was traded in January of 2004 to New York and then to Orlando in February of 2006, where he was waived instantly.
After taking a year off, Hardaway signed with Miami. He played just 16 games in a Heat uniform – starting in eight of them – and averaged just 3.8 points and 2.2 assists in 20.3 minutes per game. He was cut in December, marking the end of his playing days for good.
In 2010, Hardaway contemplated an NBA comeback. He eyed Miami, in particular, to play alongside LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh but nothing materialized.
