The Cleveland Cavaliers have a few pressing questions that will need to be answered in the offseason… whenever that comes.

Prior to the 2019-20 NBA season being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cleveland Cavaliers were showing notable signs of growth. The squad had won two of their last three games behind big performances against two tough Western Conference teams.

Since the All-Star break, the Cavaliers have gone 5-6 while beating competitive teams such as the Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, and Washington Wizards. This has been an inspiring run down the stretch of the season for Cleveland.

More from Hoops Habit

Though the league’s hiatus has halted all momentum, the NBA will return eventually. Once this happens, the Cavaliers will have limited time to prepare for a few important events. At some point, the 2020 NBA Draft and free agency period will begin.

This could result in the Cavaliers having a very different roster next season. Tristan Thompson is one of the longest-tenured players in the league and has spent nine seasons with the Cavaliers but will have his contract officially come to an end this year. It’s entirely possible the 2016 champion elects to join another franchise in free agency.

Matthew Dellavedova is also set to become a free agent while the newly acquired Andre Drummond will have the choice to opt-out of the final year of his contract. Furthermore, there are certain to be plenty of Kevin Love trade rumors to fill up the summer.

Almost guaranteed to be on the roster next year is the Cavaliers young core of Darius Garland, Collin Sexton, Dylan Windler, Kevin Porter Jr. and Cedi Osman. Windler, of course, will be making his long-awaited debut once fully recovered from an ongoing leg injury.

The franchise will be counting on this young core to continue growing together. With their growth comes a number of questions. Today, we are going to look at three pressing questions the Cavaliers will have to address before next season begins.
