Detroit Pistons: Four players who were positives this season
By Corey Rausch
2. Svi Mykhailiuk
No one wanted to see Luke Kennard on the sidelines but this allowed the next man up to stake his claim, and Svi Mykhailiuk did just that. Confidence was his biggest issue early in the season, but you could tell once he started taking his shots something would eventually click.
In only 22.6 minutes per game, Mykhaiuliuk upped his scoring to 9.0 points per game. He is already up to 40.4 percent from distance. While these numbers do not necessarily jump off the page, seeing the progression from a second-round draft pick is promising. He can space the floor efficiently, an essential skill in the modern NBA.
Having more shooters will never be a problem. The Pistons have an interesting set of options at the guard spot moving forward. Bruce Brown has acquitted himself well and if he can develop his offense further he will be a valuable rotation piece.
The aforementioned Derrick Rose will get his minutes undoubtedly. Luke Kennard will be back from injury. Jordan Bone and Khyri Thomas will probably get further chances. Ultimately the Pistons are likely to take a guard with their lottery pick this season based on the talent available at the top of the draft.
All that being said, Mykhaiuliuk has earned his opportunity to compete with all of them. Most would not have seen that coming before this season.
