While there was plenty to be negative about this season, at least four players for the Detroit Pistons this season had a positive impact.

The Detroit Pistons entered this season with expectations of a return to the playoffs. Then Blake Griffin was announced out for an extended period. Then Reggie Jackson missed the rest of 2019, rendering Detroit’s season was over before it even started.

That being said, there are always some positives to take out of any season. While it was would easy to focus on the negatives of missing the postseason for the ninth time in 11 seasons and not being able to watch Luke Kennard grow, the Pistons have picked a direction. Whether they wanted to pick this path or reality made it inevitable should not change the good place this puts the team in.

As heartbreaking as it was for portions of the fan base, myself included, moving on from Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson is almost certainly in the best interest of everyone involved. Both players need an opportunity at a fresh start to succeed in the future.

Reggie Jackson, in particular, has transformed his game and has grown substantially. He knows his role on the LA Clippers now better than ever and getting to contribute off the bench for a contender is a significantly better use of his talents.

This choosing of a path has given the Pistons a chance to focus on the future, build smartly through free agency and develop young talent. A few players have already started to make the best of this opportunity.
