Boston Celtics: 15 players you forgot played for the Celtics
7. Evan Turner
After being selected second overall in the 2010 NBA Draft, Evan Turner had a rather slow and disappointing start to his career. He spent the 2013-2014 season between the Philadelphia 76ers and Indiana Pacers, before signing a two-year, $6.7 million contract with the Boston Celtics in the 2014 offseason.
Celtics’ president of basketball operations, Danny Ainge, took a shot on Turner who had just posted only 7.1 points per game on a Pacers playoff team, to prove himself and re-establish his career as a quality role player in the NBA. Turner did exactly that by logging in 9.5 points and a career-high 5.5 assists per game off the bench that season and was an integral part of the Celtics reaching the playoffs for the first time in the Brad Stevens era.
The following year, Turner continued his progressions and logged 10.5 points per game off the bench for the Celtics, helping them reach the playoffs for the second year in a row. At this point in his career, Turner had gone to the playoffs in three straight seasons and was in line to receive a huge payday that the Celtics just weren’t in the market to give him.
Turner became a free agent in 2016 and signed a huge four-year, $70 million contract with the Portland Trailblazers. Turner is currently playing for the Timberwolves and has never been named an All-Star in the NBA.
