Boston Celtics: 15 players you forgot played for the Celtics
14. Nate Archibald
Nate Archibald started his NBA career off to a hot start throughout the early 1970s. Drafted in the second round by the Cincinnati Royals/Kansas City Omaha Kings, Archibald averaged over 20 points per game in five of his first seven seasons as a point guard. Archibald earned the scoring title and became the assists leader in the same year after producing an impressive 34 points and 11.4 assists per game in 1972-1973 as a member of the Kansas City Omaha Kings.
After averaging 20.5 points and 7.5 assists per game in 1976-1977, Archibald missed the entire 1977-1978 season for the New York Nets due to a torn Achilles tendon. As part of a seven-team trade, Archibald was sent to the Boston Celtics in 1978 where he would spend the next five seasons of his career.
Not knowing what to expect after returning from his torn Achilles, Archibald became the backup point guard to Jo Jo White. A year later, a young Larry Bird joined the team as a rookie, and a year after that the Celtics won the NBA championship in 1981, for what would be his only championship in his 13-year career.
Archibald was a six-time NBA All-Star (1973, 1975, 1976, 1980-1982) and averaged 12.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in five seasons with the Celtics. He is inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame, as well as the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a professional.
