Half Man Half Amazing: Looking back at the best moments of Vince Carter’s career
By Corey Rausch
Magic Moment
Once Vince Carter was moved to the Orlando Magic he transitioned more into the supporting player role as the team was built around Dwight Howard, who was coming off an NBA Finals appearance. For Carter, the second round of the postseason was the extent of his success.
While this season would eclipse that for him, the highlight came on February 8, 2020. The Magic trailed the New Orleans Hornets by 17 by Carter would not be denied. He scored 34 points in the second half to secure a season-high 48 points and secure the win for his team. This was the last time in his career he would score at this level and it was enough to earn a memorable win.
This Magic team would go on to make the Conference Finals, Carter’s only appearance at this level. Carter was the third-leading scorer on a Magic team that is often lost to the history books but was nonetheless impressive and somewhat ahead of its time. Gone were the days of Carter as a featured scorer. He had fully assumed his role as a complementary player.
For an all-time great it is a shame he never got play on the Finals stage but that was not ever from a lack of effort. Carter has shown that he gives his all for every team, and this game on a random February night is the perfect example of his competitive drive.
