Dunk Contest for the Ages

If this list was not simply in chronological order, this obviously would have been number one. While I personally am not the biggest dunk contest fan, the 2000 Dunk Contest was a legend maker. Since that time the event has never truly been the same because no one has been able to touch what Vinsanity did.

Bear in mind, this was Carter’s second season in the league and his first trip to the All-Star game. He started off with a 360 windmill with ease. The reactions from the legends of the game, like Shaquille O’Neal and Dikembe Mutombo said it all. His next attempt came from behind the hoop and brought a smile to Isiah Thomas‘s face.

Tracy McGrady, his cousin and fellow participant, helped out for his third dunk. This was a between-the-legs slam that came from a bounced alley-oop from his fellow Raptor. After this dunk he looked to the crowd and proclaimed it over. Steve Francis, the final opponent for Carter, could not imagine what would come after this display.

The honey dip, as it’s come to be known, left the crowd stunned. All Vince Carter could do was laugh. He jumped 37 inches in the air and dunked up to his elbow. Finally, taking off from just inside the foul line capped it off. The Slam Dunk Contest has never been the same and Vince Carter had earned his spot on the marquee.
