3. Shawn Marion

Shawn Marion was a four-time All-Star with the Suns. He was an NBA champion with the Dallas Mavericks. And between those two stops, he briefly played for both the Miami Heat and the Raptors.

In 2009, the Raptors made an NBA trade deadline acquisition for Marion and Marcus Banks in exchange for Jermaine O’Neal and Jamario Moon going to the Heat. It was a contract year for Marion, so he had a lot to prove during his short stint with the Toronto Raptors, ten years into his career.

The best way to describe Marion’s 27 games with the Raptors? Fine. He averaged 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, although his 3-point shot completely abandoned him during his Toronto tenure, as he shot just 15.4 percent from 3-point range.

Toronto didn’t stand much of a chance of making the playoffs with or without Marion and missed the playoffs despite a 5-4 record in the last month of the season. In fact, they finished 13th in the Eastern Conference, outpacing only the Knicks and Wizards.

After the season, Marion got his final big contract, a five-year deal with the Mavericks. In fact, he went there via an extremely complex sign-and-trade that also allowed the Raptors to rid themselves of a previous big acquisition: Hedo Turkoglu.
