5. Charles Oakley

Charles Oakley became an All-Star and All-Defensive selection while spending a decade with the Knicks towards the end of the 20th century. Before the millennium could flip the page, however, Oakley was flipped to the Toronto Raptors for a player who will appear later on this list.

The bullying forward was already past the peak of his career when he joined the Raptors for the 1998-99 season, but that didn’t stop him from starting every game he played for the team over the next two seasons.

He averaged 7.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in 50 games his first season, then 6.9 points and 6.8 rebounds in 80 games during his second season. During that time, he also served an invaluable role as a mentor for some of the team’s younger stars.

In his third season with the team, he came off the bench once, but still started 78 games for the team, seeing a bump up to 9.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. After that season, Toronto dealt him and a pick to the Chicago Bulls (where Oakley started his career) in exchange for Brian Skinner.

Oakley managed to make two trips to the postseason with the Raptors at the turn of the century. Since then, he has mostly been in the headlines in regards to his futile feud with Knicks owner James Dolan, which involved an arrest at Madison Square Garden.
