11. Dikembe Mutombo

The legend Dikembe Mutombo was also once a Knick at some point throughout his extended NBA career. Mutombo played 18 seasons in the league, until the age of 42, making him the fifth oldest player to ever step on an NBA court.

Mt. Mutombo arrived at Madison Square Garden at the age of 37, towards the end of his career. What’s even crazier is that he would still go on and play for five more seasons in the league after the Knicks.

Dikembe played for the New Jersey Nets for the entirety of the 2002-03 NBA season. A few weeks prior to the beginning of the next season, the Nets would go on to waive him. Instead of attempting to book a flight to his next destination, Mutombo chose to travel a few miles to New York and sign a $4 million contract with the New York Knicks.

While with the team, Mutombo’s numbers would be nowhere near his prime statistics, as age began to catch up to him during his quest for an NBA championship. He would be used as a starter for the majority of the games but did not play starter’s minutes at just 23.0 a night.

In a move that surprised everybody, the Knicks managed to get a very valuable compensation for him once they traded him in the summer of 2004. The Chicago Bulls offered him a young and promising Jamal Crawford, which the Knicks accepted happily.
