2. Duncan Robinson’s breakout

No one could have predicted Duncan Robinson, who entered this season on a two-way contract, would end up being one of the most dangerous shooters in the league. The 25-year-old makes 3.7 triples per game while shooting 44.8 percent from deep, which both rank 4th in the league.

Robinson is already one of the purest shooters in the league. He averages 9.4 field goals per game; 8.4 of those are 3-pointers. Yes, 88.6 percent of Robinson’s field goal attempts are from beyond the arc. For reference, fellow sharpshooting specialist Kyle Korver‘s 3-point attempt rate this season is 77.9 percent, a career-high.

Robinson’s 13.3 points per game is a modest number but make no mistake about it, he is one of Miami’s most dangerous weapons. In several games, he’s been the most lethal.

Robinson has smashed plenty of records this season; 50 straight games with a 3-pointer, 24 straight games with multiple 3-pointers and 243 total 3-pointers in a season are both the most in Miami Heat history. His 3-point total is also the most by an undrafted player in a single season, Keep in mind that he had 17 more games to extend these records.

Although his shooting is undeniably strong, Robinson has a lot of work to do in other aspects of the game. His ball-handling, playmaking and defense are all works in progress. Even if these don’t become strengths, Robinson’s shooting is enough to make him a legitimate problem for NBA defenses for years to come.
