4. Nick Van Exel (2003-04)

A trade to the Golden State Warriors in the summer of 2003 seemingly initiated the beginning of the end for Nick Van Exel, kicking off a string of three teams in as many seasons before calling it quits at 34 years of age.

Van Exel had originally risen to notoriety as a flashy floor general for the Lakers, a one-time All-Star with a legendary mixtape of dribble moves, fake-outs and passes along with a scoring average of 14.9 a game across five seasons in Southern California.

The former second-round pick then found himself a Denver Nugget for three and a half seasons — where he averaged 17.7 points and 8.4 assists per game — before landing as a Maverick for a season and change after that.

It was following his stint in Dallas — with averages of 12.7 points and 4.3 assists in 27.8 minutes a game — when Van Exel found his way to the Bay Area via trade in the deal that made Antawn Jamison a Maverick.

Nick the Quick played only 39 games for a Golden State Warriors team that won 37, averaging 12.6 points and 5.3 assists per game. The Dubs clearly weren’t too fond of his diminutive 6’1” frame and 39.0 field goal percentage, trading him to the Trail Blazers in July of 2004.
