Center – Christian Wood

Christian Wood is another guy who was highly recruited coming out of high school. He eventually committed to UNLV where he spent two seasons. In his sophomore season, Wood averaged 15.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game before declaring for the NBA draft in 2015.

However, despite the impressive numbers in college, Wood went undrafted in the 2015 draft and signed a multi-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. He spent all of the 2015-16 season going in and out of the G-League and on 10-day contracts with the 76ers. In July of 2016 Wood signed with the Charlotte Hornets but once again found himself in and out of the G-League.

In 2018 Wood signed with the Milwaukee Bucks and back to the G-League he went. After being waived by the Bucks, Wood signed with the New Orleans Pelicans and after being waived by the Pelicans he finally signed with the Detroit Pistons.

Wood has seemingly found a home in Detroit. He’s having by far his most consistent season and is showing that he could be an important piece for the rebuilding Pistons. This season Christian Wood is averaging career highs with 13.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game. He is also a major reason the Pistons felt liberated to trade Andre Drummond.

By trading Andre Drummond, the Pistons opened up significant minutes and opportunities for Wood. Since the Drummond trade, Wood is averaging 22.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.0 block per game. These are incredible numbers that will cement Wood’s place in the NBA and will hopefully establish him as a building block for the Pistons future.
