Introducing the 2019-20 All-NBA Out-Of-Nowhere Team
By Nate Friesen
Forward – Duncan Robinson
Similar to Chris Chiozza, Duncan Robinson didn’t come out of nowhere for college basketball fans. Robinson started out his college career at a Division III school and after one season transferred to Michigan. In his senior season, Robinson played an integral role in Michigan’s 2018 tournament run that resulted in a loss in the NCAA championship game to Villanova.
Even though Robinson proved to be a lethal shooter in college he still went undrafted in 2018. He eventually signed a two-way contract with the Miami Heat and played a total of 15 games in his rookie season. This 2019-20 season was a much different story for Robinson.
In just his second season in the league, Robinson is averaging 13.3 points with shooting splits of .467/.448/.906. These numbers are good enough for fourth in the league in both 3-point percentage and free throw percentage according to NBA.com.
Possibly the most remarkable part of this season for Robinson is that he is putting together the most efficient jump-shooting season of any player over the last five seasons with an effective field goal percentage of 67.7 percent, per Kirk Goldsberry.
Not only are Robinson’s raw numbers incredible, but he has also been an important part of Miami’s success this season. He has started 60 of the Heat’s 65 games and has helped lead the team to a 41-24 record and the four seed in the Eastern Conference.
